About innovation

Practical experience plays a key role in new developments at MTB Cycletech. Here, innovation is much more than just a marketing task. This can be beautifully illustrated with the «Opium», our fully suspended flag ship among the mountain-bike models: The characteristic shape of the frame dates back to 1991 when the first full-suspension model the «Stinger» was introduced to the marketplace. Three years later the Horst link, a four-link kinematic system, was added - a developement of the Swiss design & engineering company TribeCraft Inc. and its innovative co-founder Martin Schütz. Since then only details have been changed: The weight got down from 14.5 kg (32 lbs) to 10.9 kg (24 lbs), the travel tripled from 60mm (2") to 150mm (6") and a hydroformed upper tube increases stiffness substantially and makes the bike look cleaner and lighter.

Innovation has also led to lighter and safer city and trekking bikes at MTB Cycletech. Together with Reynolds, MTB Cycletech developed new tubing shapes which are exclusively made for the trekking and expedition model «Papalagi». Integrated designs have been implemented in models such as «Pura Vida» with its cold drawn town aluminum tube or the «Papalagi» with its 3-D designed cromoly drop-outs. New materials were explored and MTB Cycletech is very proud to introduce the first ever built stainless steel frame for 26" wheels made from the legendary Reynolds tubing. Quite an achievement!
